When our kids don’t share our nostalgia …
I’ve been holding something in, and I have to let it out. I’m a little angry with my children.
I took them to see The Muppets a week ago. I loved it. It was true to the original (joy, goofiness, silliness, hope, happiness, love, sunshine, good intentions, quirky celebrity cameos, singing, rainbows and razzle dazzle… did I mention that it was my favorite, favorite show as a kid?) but modernized correctly, nostalgic in all the right places and self-aware (if a movie can be self aware).
Yes, I loved it. My kids? Eh. They were more excited about seeing a preview for Chipmunks 3 before the movie started. That hurt. A lot.
But I think it was my fault. I didn’t prep them. They didn’t even really know who The Muppets were until about 10 minutes before the movie started.
Proof? When the movie was over, I asked my kids to name their favorite muppet. My now-four-year-old said, “*The turtle.”
*Kermit the Effing Turtle?

I’ve had that happen to me as well. My kid couldn’t care less about the Fraggles when I tried to show her the episodes earlier this year. Such a sad, sad thing.

I know what you mean. My kids have seen the Muppet Show and they were pretty much “Meh”. The older two thought it “ok” and the youngest got bored. O.o

Oh my. I would be angry too. No shame in wanting your kids to have the best taste in movies. One day, you will tell them this story and they will be embarrassed. It’s like making your kids a filet mignon and they want a Mcdonald’s hamburger.
