Auld Lang Syne, my friend
I could wrap up the year with one of those lists of bests and worst. But everybody does that, and God knows we don't need to be reminded of all the "worsts" we hit in 2008. Neither do I need an excuse to indulge my cynical side, always lurking just beneath the surface. (OK, sometimes *at* the surface.)
So I'm going to put on my Chapeau of Naive Optimism and present hopes and ... dreams (nope, too corny) resolutions (cliche) intentions for 2009.

What are your hopes and intentions for the New Year?
So I'm going to put on my Chapeau of Naive Optimism and present hopes and ... dreams (nope, too corny) resolutions (cliche) intentions for 2009.
Hopes
In 2009, I hope ...
- That these economic times, while difficult for so many, will force us to reconsider our priorities as individuals and as a nation.
- That we'll rediscover the value of saving over spending, people over things, quality not quantity, and the true meaning of the word "enough."
- That we won't let our own struggles keep us from remembering how much worse so many in the rest of the world have it, because they truly know what it means to be without.
- That in buying and getting and wanting less, our reduced consumption will allow us to see that we can live a life less harmful to the planet.
- That our government will have the courage to say no as it develops economic packages, and thereby not mortgage our children's futures in a reckless attempt to preserve a status quo in the present that cannot be sustained.
- That God will give our new president strength and wisdom.
- That my family is blessed by good health.
Intentions
In 2009, I intend ...
- To continue the spirit of the 2008 resolution (aka Write Club) to write on a regular schedule.
- To grow more in the garden and create more from fresh food.
- To be more present in the playtime moments I have with Julia.
- To eat thoughtfully and move regularly.
- To allow myself to be wrong, to fail, to be afraid.
- To allow myself to learn what's right, to succeed, to overcome fear.
- To remember my blessings of health, home, family, friends.
- To open my heart to God's will and plan.
- (Oh, yeah -- and I'm going to floss more. No, really.)
