Six degrees of Google

Google once again performs magic. Over the past several months, I have reconnected online with friends from high school and early college days with whom I had lost touch 15 or more years ago. Here are a few pix of them. Top: Denny Juge (who I found last year, in hand-painted leather jacket, freshman year at Tulane. Middle: Me with Shelly Knapp in Austin, Texas, also freshman year, 1988. Bottom: Jonathan Fritz, at journalism camp, summer after our junior year in high school, 1987.

Beach Girls

Julia and I just got back from a 4-day-weekend away, of which 2 days were spent in Bethany Beach with my stepsister, Andrea, and her family, including Julia's cousin Sarah. Here are Sarah and Julia together on the beach.

Juror #96

I somehow survived jury duty today, in a call-up of 350 people for 7 trials. But my number wasn't in the first two panels, and the rest settled or otherwise didn't need juries. By 12:15 I was in the lucky group that got sent home, off the hook for another 3 years. This means, of course, that in 2010 I'll get put on the jury for some lengthy criminal case ...

Black holes and revelations

Rocked triumphantly with Karim last night at the Muse show at the Patriot Center. It was bombastic, fantastic and included both classical piano *and* trumpet solos. What's not to like?

02 - Map Of The Problematique [04:17]
03 > Maggie's Farm [00:47]
04 - Hysteria [04:35]
05 > Supermassive Black Hole [03:58]
06 - Butterflies & Hurricanes [06:45]
07 - City Of Delusion [05:43]
08 - Apocalypse Please [04:43]
09 - Piano intro [00:36]
10 > Feeling Good [03:28]
11 - Invincible [06:19]
12 - Starlight [05:14]
13 - New Born [06:16]
14 > unknown jam [02:08]

16 > Time Is Running Out [04:43]
17 - Bliss (extended version) [07:10]

Hair today, gone tomorrow

I went to get my hair cut last night and my stylist (the very excellent Mike Cao at Robert Lewis Salon) said, "Why don't we do something different?" He even threw in a bribe: it would be free if I let him do what he wanted. Hmm. So I asked him to draw me a picture. I didn't hate it, so I said, why not.

So after about 7 or 8 years of my bob, I am back to short hair again. I'm still getting used to it. It's definitely cute, but I think the longer style suits my face better. I will probably enjoy it short for the summer, and let it grow again.

Julia asked me what happened to the hair that was cut off. She wanted to know if it could be put back on again. She wanted to have the same hair as me, as she did before, but she didn't want to cut her hair short.
