A new hat

Call it the Lord working in mysterious ways. Call it karma. Last Thursday, Scott, my boss, pulled me aside and asked if I was interested in a position he was creating to head up project management, which would also come with a raise. (Actually, what he said was, "Do you want to be in charge of your girls? Yes or no?") I was temporarily taken aback, especially since he sprung it on me — deliberately, as he wanted my "gut reaction" — 2 minutes before a major client presentation. But snap decisions have never been my forte, so I managed to stall him from requiring an answer until we at least were able to go to lunch and discuss exactly what it was I was most likely getting myself into. It wasn't until I saw his announcement email to the staff the next day that I knew what my actual title was: Director, Client Services.

And that's how I found myself unexpectedly promoted.

Maybe I've been unconsciously ready for this role (or it's a new-found sense of purpose?), but I feel more comfortable with the sudden change in responsibility than I would have thought. Full steam ahead...

(In addition to the new hat, mama did have to get herself some new shoes.)

May Revisited

Only one year ago, on another beautiful, breezy, sunny, fresh and green May day just like this, we were toting our tiny baby around and we found this house. Now we're settled in, and we can enjoy a summer of back yards and patios, without packing or moving or cicadas. If it were up to Julia, we would always be outside. We've planted some corn and pumpkins and blackberries; come autumn we should have fresh things to eat.
